Board Fellows is a service learning program offered by Net Impact in
conjunction with the David Eccles School of Business (DESB). The
program enables MBA and MPA students to serve as ex-officio members on
local nonprofit boards of directors, following an in-depth application
and matching process. As Fellows, students spend 6-10 hours each month,
depending on student availability and organizational need, working
closely with a board mentor, attending board meetings, serving on a
board or ad hoc committee, and participating in special events and
projects as needed. Board Fellows act as non-voting, ex-officio members
of the board.
Student fellows benefit from the opportunity to learn firsthand the rewards and challenges of board service, gain an understanding of management in the nonprofit sector, and develop relationships with members of successful boards.
Through the program, nonprofit organizations are able to connect with future board members and volunteers, as well as benefit from fresh perspectives and students' skills in marketing, finance, strategic planning, advocacy, and quantitative analysis.
The Board Fellows Program lasts nine months. Recruiting for the 2006-2007 academic year (September to April) has ended. We are proud to say that in our inagural year we have matched 25 students with local non-profit boards, and are excited for this program to take off and grow!
